Abstract

The genus Bactracomorphus (Homoptera: Cicadellidae) is redefined by incorporating previously undescriptionbed characters of the male abdominal apodemes. Eighteen new species and one new subspecies are descriptionbed, and 19 previously recognized taxa are now redescriptionbed more fully. The new species are beninensis, ceresensis, clarensis, classeyi, dalatandoensis, distinctissimus, duquensis, gobiswaterensis, hollisi, lewisi, lucalensis, mosselensis, natalensis, quirimboensis, samaruensis, sapobensis, wardi, and welwitschi. One new subspecies, liberiensis carvalhoi, is descriptionbed. Keys to the recognized subgenera as well as to all the Ethiopian species and subspecies (totalling 127 taxa) are included. Illustrations of the male genitalia and of the male abdominal apodemes are presented, and, where possible, of the female seventh sternite.
