oa Journal of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa - A New Type of Artificial Nest for Ants and Termites
Since 1753 various people attempted to build artificial nests for ants and termites. The known types all had various problems that defeated the study of their subjects. What is required is a nest in which natural conditions are reproduced as closely as possible, yet in which the ants are under control and easily observed. The writer reckons the requirments are met in the new type of nest which he has devised after many trials and errors and which he has now been using successfully for some time.
