oa Journal of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa - Studies of the family Gasterophilidae, with keys to the adults and maggots

Abstract

The position of the botflies within the order Diptera has long been the subject of debate. Emden (1940), and Oldroyd (1949) have followed Hendel in considering the family a member of the Acalypterae. In this paper we, too, are of this opinion. The larvae of these flies parasitize the equids and the rhinoceros.
