Abstract

The larvae of the Syrphid genus Sphaerophoria are known to be predacious on aphids and other Homoptera, and the immature stages of several species of the genus have been descriptionbed. In May 1952 Dr. E. McC. Callan discovered several Syrphid larvae preying on Cercothrips afer Priesner (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripidae) in Grahamstown.
