oa Journal of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa - Nymphs, Fore femoral spines, Key to adults of South African genera of Blissinae

Abstract

The immature stages of most Blissinae are undescriptionbed. This is unfortunate as there appear to be many characters present in the nymphs that are important to an understanding of the taxonomy and phylogeny of the subfamily. To the economic entomologist the ability to identify nymphs is often very important for in destructive species they are often the most injurious stages and frequently damage takes place before adults are present to permit accurate identification.
