oa Journal of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa - Periodic pupation in Anopheles gambiae Giles

Abstract

According to Halcrow (1956), maximum pupation of Anopheles gambiae occurs between 5.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. in Mauritius. On the other hand, Shute (1956) states that in Tanganyika the pupation of this species mostly occurs in the afternoon, from about 1.00 p.m. tot 4.00 p.m. But neither author presents sufficient data to establish a definite diurnal periodicity in the pupation of this species.
