Abstract

Genus Seira Lubbock, 1870 Typically entomobryid in appearance, with long thin antennae from one-half to more than twice the length of the body. Ant. IV with a terminal protrusible vesicle. In adults, ant. IV & III are annulated as indicated by the arrangement of the setae (e.g., figs. 29 & 55). In juveniles, this annulation is not always apparent. Eyes, 8 - 8, often on a dark eyepatch. Mesonotum often protruded over the posterior portion of the head. Body more or less covered with large brown scales which are from bluntly oval to almost circular in shape. Scales also on tibiotarsus, femur, ant. I & II, basally on ant. III and on manubrium and dens.
