The confused identity of the type-species of Filippia Targioni Tozzetti, Lichtensia Signoret and Euphilippia Berlese & Silvestri is discussed. Following examination of the original descriptionptions of the species concerned the author's conclusion endorses the earlier one of Morrison & Morrison (1966) that the descriptionptive material given under the name Coccus oleae O. G. Costa, 1828, presents no evidence for regarding this name as the valid name of the type-species of Filippia, and that Filippia follicularis (Targioni Tozzetti, 1867) is the valid One. The taxonomic identity, which was unknown hitherto, of Filippia folilcularis is established and clarified. Euphilippia olivina Berlese & Silvestri, 1906, is shown to be a junior synonym of F. Jollicularis, and therefore Euphilippia becomes an objective synonym of Filippia. Lichtensia viburni Signoret, the type-species of Lichtensia is redescriptionbed and the characters distinguishing it from type-species of Filippia are presented.
My attention has been called to two nomenclatural errors in the two families of Diptera the South African representatives of which I have revised, namely the mis-identified type-species of the genus Nomalonia Rondani (family Bombyliidae) and that of Nomeneura Bezzi (family Mydaidae).
