oa Journal of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa - The structure and parasitic life cycle of Boophilus microplus (Canestrini, 1888) in South Africa (Acarina: Ixodidae)

Abstract

All instars of the ixodid tick Boophilus microplus are redescriptionbed, with the aid of a scanning electron microscope, from material originally obtained from Zululand (Natal, South Africa). The course of feeding of all stages, moulting of larvae and nymphs and the detachment of engorged adult females of this tick were studied under laboratory conditions using a Guernsey calf as host.
