Lucilia spinicosta Hough was based on a male and a female from Somalia. Through the kindness of Dr D. C. Rentz, Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia, Mr A. C. Pont (British Museum) was able to borrow the male specimen labelled as ""lectotype"". He found that it does not represent a species of Lucilia, but belongs to the genus Phumosia sensu Zumpt (1956b). It was sent to us for confirmation and also permission was given to dissect the genitalia. This has been done with the result that Phumosia spinicosta (Hough) is conspecific with P. pretoriensis Zumpt.
