oa Journal of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa - My search for Leptoneura jansei (Lepidoptera)

Abstract

This extremely local butterfly, Leptoneura jansei Swierstra, was discovered by Dr. A. J. T. Janse on the farm ""Warmberg"" Pietersburg Dist. (12th March,1904). Since that date further search for this unique butterfly has apparently been seriously neglected by other collectors, as 31 years elapsed before it was rediscovered. During a visit to the Transvaal Museum in 1932, Mr. G. van Son drew my attention to L. jansei. A certain sense of fascination for rare insects inspired me to hunt for it.
