oa Journal of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa - Comb Construction by the African Honeybee, Apis mellifera adansonii

Abstract

Cell size discrimination by A. m. adansonii was investigated using beeswax foundation having a range of cell sizes from 170 to 1022 cells/dm2. Different construction solutions and different working tolerances were measured from combs built in queenright colonies. These cell types differ significantly in the amount of wax required to contain the same amount of honey.
