Trogoderma granarium larvae undergo a facultative diapause. Such larvae feed occasionally and accumulate large quantities of reserve food in their fat body. These larvae, on pupation yield heavier adults which lay large numbers of eggs. A synthetic juvenile hormone (methylene deoxypheneyl ether of 6,7-epoxygeraniol) was found to be effective in preventing pupation of diapause larvae.
