Other than members of the P. tonica group (which barely extends south of the Equator), five species of P. occur in tropical and southern Africa: P. vignaudii (Guerin), pp. angolensis Bolivar, P. granulata Stal, P. rugosa (Key) and P. minuta Kevan. A key to the species and their principal and recent synonymies are given. All are illustrated and redescriptionbed. All known localities for each species are listed and/or mapped. Relationships and biogeography of the species discussed are briefly considered.
