A serious problem caused by nuisance-value mosquitoes has existed at Richards Bay for many years. This was attributed to Mansonia uniformis breeding in the extensive swamps associated with the Mhlatuze delta and Lake Msingazi. This programme confirmed that M. uniformis was the principal biter, and bred in swamps.
