A key is provided for 23 species of Drosophilidae, 21 of which have been found in areas of human settlement in southern Africa; seven of these species are cosmopolitan and eight others are widespread in Africa. Several cryptic species are included, their identification requiring examination of male genitalia; all other species key on features of external morphology.
