Surveys on the introduced apionid weeviI Trichapion lativentre showed that adult and larval feeding damage inhibited the growth of the South American weed Sesbania punicea and reduced seed-set of the plants by more than 80% on average in the East London area, South Africa. Intraspecific competition for food and breeding sites occurred on one occasion when there were over six adult weevils per 300 mm of branch in spring.
