oa Journal of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa - Embryonic and immature stages of Phlyctinus callosus Boh. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae): aspects of biology and behaviour with respect to control in deciduous fruit orchards1

The banded fruit weevil, Phlyctinus callosus Boh., is a key pest in apple and nectarine orchards where adults cause crop losses worth at least 14 million annually by feeding on the fruits. Management of the pest is hampered by a lack of understanding ofits biology and behaviour.Aspects of the biology of the eggs and immature stages were studied with a view to improving management in deciduous fruit orchards.
