According to a recent review, there is a need to extend the appropriate use of β-blockers in patients with all stages of heart failure and to those at risk of developing it. In 1973 Finn Waagstein et al. , convinced that β-blockers could be beneficial in heart failure, administered practolol to a 50-year-old woman with heart failure, which resulted in a dramatic improvement in her clinical status.
