Extracted from text ... Are ACE inhibitors such as perindopril (Coversyl(r)) effective as monotherapy in treating hypertension in black patients? There seems to be a common and widespread perception that they are not. However, an interesting study1 reported at the 2002 meeting of the American Society of Hypertension casts doubt on this perception. It also suggests reasons why this perception could have arisen in the first place. In this large, multi-centre, openlabel study, almost ten thousand people with mild to moderate hypertension were treated in 2 000 centres throughout the USA.
