Extracted from text ... 56 New developments in pharmacotherapy The latest developments in the lipid-regulating drug field have been the launching of rosuvastatin, arguably the most potent statin currently available and of ezetimibe, a novel cholesterol absorption inhibitor. Combined administration of these two classes of drug achieves simultaneous inhibition of cholesterol synthesis and absorption, resulting in unprecedented reductions in low-density lipoprotein (LDL).
