The Trandolapril Cardiac Evaluation Study (TRACE), published almost 10 years ago, showed that long-term treatment (two to four years) using trandolapril in acute myocardial infarction patients with left ventricular dysfunction (LVD) significantly reduced the risk of overall mortality, mortality from cardiovascular causes, sudden death and the development of severe heart failure. The initial study began in 1990 and closed in 1994; on-treatment follow-up ranged from two to four years. The TRACE study was pivotal in encouraging the selective use of ACE inhibition after myocardial infarction as the study was fully randomised, enrolling 25% of consecutive patients screened after myocardial infarction who ..
