oa Cardiovascular Journal of Africa - Practicalities of delivering crystalloid cardioplegic solutions: Part II. Temperature

Abstract

Profound cardiac hypothenola (10 - 15C) Is an essential component of most techniques used to provide myocardial protecdon when the aom is cross-clamped during open heart surgery_ Cardiac hypothermia is induced and maintained primarily by infusing cold cardioplegic solutions Inlo the beart. Whether crystalloid cardioplegic delivery systems, in fact., deliver tbe solution to the heart at a temperature of less than 6C was evaluated.
