The rotational line structure of the ?2 parallel infrared band of monodeuteromethane has been measured and analysed The ground state constants are in good agreement with those of the parallel band ?3 and the perpendicular band ?1. The moment of inertia of the excited state about the figure axis of the molecule was found to be smaller than that of the ground state.
