Bis-symmetrical tripropoxy -butyl calix[4]arene esters were prepared from the reaction of tripropoxy calix[4]arene (1HPr) with di-acyl chlorides as bridges in the presence of sodium hydride. The esters, which were synthesized from L-alanine acyl chloride derivatives, are optically active. In all of these esters, calix[4]arene cavities have a pinched cone conformation. The structures of these esters were confirmed by FT-IR, 1HNMR and 13CNMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and ion positive FAB mass spectrometry.
