Abstract

The functions of the "advocaat" are thus twofold. Firstly, he gives legal advice, draws up contracts, drafts all necessary documents when legal proceedings are instituted, and acts as counsel for the accused in criminal matters. Secondly, he acts as the legal representative of the party to the proceedings in civil matters.
