oa Comparative and International Law Journal of Southern Africa - A note on the Botswana Customary Courts (Amendment) Act I972

The Customary Courts (Amendment) Act ("the Act") received assent on 7 April 1 972 and came into force on 21 April 1 972. It is a short Act of thirteen sections amending the Customary Courts Proclamation of 1961 ("the principal proclamation"), but within its sections it makes substantial changes to the powers of the customary courts. The principal object of the Act as stated is to limit the offences for which a customary court may impose a sentence of corporal punishment.
