A salary survey was conducted amongst members of the South African Institution of Civil Engineers and the South African Institute of Civil Engineering Technicians and Technologists during June 1993 in collaboration with the South African Engineering Association (SAVI).
The paper reviews current practice in South African urban cleansing organizations and compares local standards with those encountered overseas. The storage, collection and disposal or re-use of solid wastes is discussed, and discernible trends are enumerated in an attempt to Indicate their effect on future policy and methods.
