Extracted from text ... IN DECEMBER LAST YEAR, the President of the French Republic, Jacques Chirac, officially opened the Millau Viaduct in France's southern Aveyron region. The spectacular cable-stayed, four-lane bridge set new standards in design and construction - and is the tallest in Europe. The viaduct completes the A75 motorway across the Massif Central, creating a direct link between Paris and Barcelona.
