Compressive strength tests on mortars containing two typical South African cements indicate that early strength gain is accelerated by all dosages of admixed calcium chloride up to the maximum tested, viz 15 per cent by mass of the cement content. At later ages, however, compressive strength declines sharply when the dosage exceeds about four per cent.
