An analysis has been made of all available civil engineering tender results for contracts in excess of 10,000 from July 1949, to June 1952, first for the Union of South Africa and second for Northern and Southern Rhodesia combined. The results have been tabulated and plotted. The overall average variation has been found to be approximately 50 per cent but taking the average over each six monthly period it has varied from 24 per cent to 76 per cent. The Author has tried to account for this variation but the evidence is insufficient to be conclusive.
