Abstract

Power plants can experience difficulties in complying with environmental regulations when recirculation causes an increase in temperature levels at the plant intake. Recirculation occurs when the outfall and intake of the plant are located too close to each other, and the prevailing wind, currents and stratification prevent effective dispersion of the effluent plume. A recirculation assessment is able to quantify the amount of recirculation and identify the measures to minimise recirculation.
