The excessive rains that fell over most of the Orange Free State during February and March 1988 resulted In damage estimated at R48 million to the rural road network and bridges of the province. Damage was caused to 122 bridge approaches and structural damage was caused to two bridges that were 32 and 62 years old.
Kerb inlets are critical and expensive components of stormwater systems. The cost-effectiveness of a stormwater system depends largely on the hydraulic efficiency of its kerb inlets. Boksburg Municipality has developed a system with improved interception capacity at reduced cost per inlet.
