An integrated pollution control (IPC) project was initiated by the Department of Environment Affairs and Tourism in 1992 with the objective of developing an integrated system of pollution control for South Africa. The project has now progressed to the stage where models of an integrated regulatory structure need to be drafted. To this end, three members of the IPC project team visited the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Europe last year to investigate models of IPC.
An important trend in recent years is for companies to decentralise work to small firms. This can take the form of home working, freelance work and, more commonly, subcontracting. When discussing subcontracting the examples of Japan and the newly industrialised countries along the Pacific Rim immediately spring to mind, but studies also testify to a general increase in subcontracting in Mexico, Lima, Brazil, the UK, Spain, Italy and many of the West African countries, amongst others.
As a consultant and facilitator, one comes to appreciate the value, both tangible and Intangible, of diverse and/or multicultural teams, especially when certain aspects of knowledge, attitude and skill are present in such learns.
