In this paper, the Author presents the first published information on basic improvements in the design of conventional prestressed concrete cylinder pipe. Elastic and inelastic losses are discussed as they pertain to the recent development of prestressed concrete embedded cylinder pipe. Since its development in 1949, this modified design has been used for many important water supply projects. This type of construction is particularly applicable to large diameter and high pressure pipelines;
