The method of underground storage has, for the time being, been shelved in this country owing to doubt as to its success here. In the Argentine it is quickly superseding all other methods except at railheads and harbours where the rapid handling ability of the vertical silo method keeps the latter in operation but even then extensions to any of these are by way of subterranean additions. By the end of 1958, 30 per cent of all grain storage will be underground and that in spite of this method only having been initiated as recently as 1942. The reason for this development is the certainty, ease and economy with which these structures can be built.
