Details are given of a large number of cases where micro-straining has been successfully employed in overcoming water, industrial effluent and sewage purification problems, either in combination with other 6ltration systems or as a sole filtration agent. Generally the addition of micro-strainers to existing systems has brought about a substantial increase in output or an improvement in clarification standards. A brief descriptionption is given of equipment and filtering media used, as well as the principles on which the design of micro-straining installations is based.
In expressing our appreciation of this Paper we are recognising the growing (Status' of our Institution and its members. It should be noted that this is a status which is being acquired without any assistance from registration. The Authors have presented a Paper and descriptionbed matters which are outside the experience of most civil engineers, and have done something important in publicising the costs of their experiments and the final product before the patents were handed over to commerce.
The problem of shoaling at St. Lucia Estuary was investigated by means of a movable bed hydraulic model. The object was to find the most effective and economical means of maintaining throughout the year a permanent connection between the sea and the lake, this being vital to the preservation of the St. Lucia Nature Reserve.
