Measurements were made of the movement of a ring-tension biological filter wall at the Olifantsvlei Sewage Purification works over a period of five years. The movements were progressive, although the magnitude of the movements indicated that the steel reinforcement had not yielded. Total movement was greater than would be expected from the temperature range experienced and the appropriate thermal coefficient for the crushed Reef quartzite aggregate concrete used in the construction.
