Abstract

On Contract 741/SA27 a rock quantity of approximately 400 000 m3 of rock was expected. After commencing earthworks it became apparent that the rock quantity was approximately four times more than estimated. The contractor was informed that no extension of time could be awarded as the overall project had to be completed on time. New methods had to be investigated to solve the problem.
