oa Civil Engineer in South Africa - An improved method for generating influence surfaces for bridge decks

 

Abstract

A method of generating influence surfaces for bridge decks is described. It is applicable to finite element, finite difference and grillage analyses, and has significant computational advantages over the traditional approach. The method involves the derivation of a load vector for each influence surface such that resulting deflections are equal to the ordinates of the influence surface. Only one load case is therefore required for each influence surface and the process of back-substituting deflections to obtain forces is obviated.

Dit is op eindige element-, differensie- en ruitontledings van toepassing en besit betekenisvolle voordele ten opsigte van berekening bo die tradisionele benadering. Die metode behels die afleiding van 'n lasvektor vir elke invloedsoppervlak so dat die defleksies gelyk is aan die ordinate van die invloedsoppervlak. Slegs een lasgeval word dus vir elke invloedsoppervlak benodig en die gewone proses waarby die defleksies terugvervang word, word dus uitgeskakel.
