oa Civil Engineer in South Africa - Richards Bay : an ecological dilemma

Abstract

The opportunity to plan a vast harbour complex on a virgin site is a unique experience. The ecological significance of Richards Bay is outlined and the environmental philosophies and ensuing research projects are summarized. The resulting influence upon the development policies of the several agencies involved is discussed. The short-term evaluation of this coordinated effort indicates guide-lines for environmental management techniques for similar future projects.
