oa Civil Engineer in South Africa - Some recent developments in the use of rubber for road and airport pavement maintenance

Abstract

Rubberized bitumen has been found to perform remarkably well as a pavement maintenance and rehabilitation material in the USA in recent years. The new material differs substantially in composition from earlier compounds of this type which had performed in essentially the same manner as unmodified bitumen. This paper describes the new material and its use, briefly referring to the USA experience with rubberized bitumen, and indicates potential applications in southern Africa.
