This paper contains a general description of a soil anchor of novel design whose technical development programme is now complete. Although this anchor, called the QMC-anchor, is designed mainly for offshore applications, it can and will be used for on-land applications also.
During the development process extensive field trials were undertaken; elaborate computer model studies were also performed in order to determine the driveability characteristics of the anchor. Both these aspects have been discussed in some detail. A good degree of correlation was achieved between the observed and predicted performances of the anchor.
