Abstract

Computer simulation of hydrological processes provides engineers and hydrologists with a reliable technique for the assessment of stormwater runoff. Many hydrological simulation models developed thus far are however main-frame computer orientated and, with the current popularity of micro-computers, a need for a micro-computer compatible hydrological simulation model clearly exists. This paper presents the theory and development of WITWAT, an urban drainage hydrological simulation model with built-in design and analysis features and based on South African hydrology. The model is suitable for application on Hewlett-Packard 85, 86, 87 and 9816 microcomputers.

Rekenaarsimuleering van hidrologiese prosesse voorsien ingenieurs en hidroloë van 'n betroubare metode vir die skatting van vloedwaterafloop. Baie hidrologiese simulasie modelle wat tot dusver ontwikkel is, is hoofsaaklik op hoofraamrekenaars gerig. Met die huidige gewildheid van mikro-rekenaars het die behoefte ontstaan vir 'n hidrologiese simulasie model wat op die rekenaars uitgevoer kan word. Hierdie referaat behandel die teorie en ontwikkeling van WITWAT, 'n hidrologiese simulasie model vir stedelike dreinering wat op Suid-Afrikaanse hidrologie gebaseer is en fasiliteite vir ontwerp en evalusie het. Die model is geskik vir toepassing op Hewlett-Packard 85, 86, 87 en 9816 mikro-rekenaars.
