Abstract

Die sydelingse weerstand teen wiellaste van 'n 1,065 m wye spoorbaan gebou van SAVD 48 kg / m spoorstawe, Pandrol-hegstukke en tipe P-2 spanbetondwarslëers op ballas volgens SAVD-standaarde is in die laboratorium bepaal by verskillende asbelastings, ballasverdigtings en spoorstaaftemperature.


In ooreenstemming met vorige navorsingsbevindings is gevind dat die asbelasting en ballasverdigting 'n groot rol speel terwyl die rol van temperatuur daarenteen onbeduidend is. Vir 'n 'standaard' onderstopte ballasprofiel is die bekende Prud'homme-formule vir die toelaatbare horisontale last per H = 10 + aslas / 3 kN heel konserwatief.

The lateral resistance to wheel loads of a 1,065 guage railway track consisting of 48 kg / m SATS rails, Pandrol fastenings and Type P-2 prestressed concrete sleepers on standard SATS ballast was determined in the laboratory. The axle load, degree of ballast compaction and rail temperature were the parameters which were varied.


As concluded by earlier investigators the axle load and ballast compaction showed significant influences on the lateral resistance whereas the temperature effect was negligible. At standard tamped density the well-known Prud'homme formula conservatively predicted the lateral resistance per axle as H = 10 x axle load / 3 kN.
