Slag cement mortar mixes containing samples of GGBS obtained commercially from two different sources were investigated. The slag powders with a similar fineness (4 320 cm<sup>2</sup>/g and 4 360 cm<sup>2</sup>/g Blaine) had different chemical moduli (1, 59 and 1, 80) and percentages of voids (34 and 42 per cent). Some fresh, hardened and durability properties were investigated for the mortar mixes with similar amount of slag (70 per cent) and a constant water/cement ratio (0, 45). The results show that the mixes containing the slag sample with the higher percentage of voids exhibited lower workability and improved bleeding rate and capacity. Furthermore, the results show that the GGBS sample with the higher chemical modulus was associated with the higher values of compressive strength and drying shrinkage and lower values of permeability and porosity at all the ages of testing for the mixes
