States Silvanus ruled for twenty-eight days as Emperor at Cologne in the year 355. Ammianus Marcellinus is the main source for this rebellion against the authority of Constantius. Raises four questions which find no satisfactory answer in Ammianus' handling of the subject: Why did Silvanus not march against Constantius; not discuss such a possibility with Ursicinus; Proculus persist in upholding the innocence of his master; what happened in 355.
