Abstract

The author examines intimate femicide as a form of violence against women and children. Intimate femicide is defined as the killing of women by their intimate male partners and can include either overt or covert femicide. The author also discusses the South African situation in terms of the factors bearing on intimate femicide and with reference to the case of . The author then considers the general perceptions of men, the public, the media and the Constitutional Court concerning femicide and concludes that intimate femicide should be recognised as a form of a sexual violence.
