Journal of African Political Economy and Development
The Journal of African Political Economy and Development (JAPED) is an inter-disciplinary journal, with a focus on Africa and its many entanglements. It is devoted to the study of contemporary African societies. By contemporary Africa, we mean the imperialized Africa at the beginning of the 20th century. Defined broadly to include the comparative study of politics, current political history, political economy of development, democratization, social movements, institutions, and the African diaspora. In particular, the journal aims to promote rigorous scholarship that asks difficult but historically relevant questions ‘on the post-colony.’ It aims to provide some alternative explanation for gaining a deeper understanding of a problematized Africa in all its facets. Topics covered include Africa’s many development trajectories, challenges of the nation-state, peasant economies, conflict, social, economic and cultural developments, democratic deepening, democratic consolidation, governance (local and corporate governance), political culture, natural resources, environmental governance, energy governance, ownership of resources and service delivery, among others. Furthermore, JAPED aims to encourage debate on theoretical viewpoints, especially on the experimentation of development blueprints that are of interest to the policy community and development experts.

Journal of African Union Studies
The advent of the African Union (AU) was hailed as an event of great magnitude in the institutional evolution of the continent. One of the central visions of the AU is that of \an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena.\" The AU is currently proactively engaged in achieving some of the salient objectives it had set out for itself to achieve, including the achievement of greater unity and solidarity between African countries and the peoples of Africa, the promotion and defence of African common positions on issues of interest to the continent and its peoples, the promotion of peace, security and stability on the continent, the promotion of popular participation and good governance and the establishment of the necessary conditions which would enable the continent to play its rightful role in the global economy.
In the light of increasing globalisation the AU's enhanced participation in international affairs, there is a need to engage in critical and rigorous scholarly inquiry about the AU and its important endeavours. This is the main rationale for the setting up of the Journal of African Union Studies. The journal hopes to be a platform for African and international scholars to contribute towards a critical, rigorous and well-informed academic appraisal and debate of the African Union and its involvement in all critical spheres relating to the promotion of its African agenda."
