Abstract

The article scrutinises the theory of ownership in relation to oil and gas exploration in the Niger-Delta. In the general context of resource control and derivation principles. It argues that advantages inhere in resource control by resource endowed communities and that ceding such power to the Niger Delta will enhance development. In conclusion, the article calls for an enabling act to increase derivation principle to 50% in order to assuage the feelings of deprivation by the resource bearing communities.
